We've seen solar companies clear good farmland to install panels. We disagree with that approach. If land is productive — if it grows crops or supports livestock — it should keep doing that. Solar should go on land that isn't pulling its weight.

Why Ground Mounts Produce More Power

Ground mounts have three advantages over roof systems: optimal positioning, better cooling, and no shading from roof features. A 10 kW ground mount typically produces 5-10% more power annually than a 10 kW roof system in the same location. Over 25 years, that's thousands of dollars in extra savings.

Optimal Angle

Ground mounts can be angled for maximum sun exposure year-round. In Alberta, the ideal angle is 35-40 degrees. Ground mounts hit that target. Roofs often don't.

Wind & Structural Engineering

We design for 120+ mph wind loads, exceeding Alberta's typical wind speeds. The frame is bolted to concrete footings that go below the frost line — typically 4-5 feet in Alberta. Proper engineering is non-negotiable.

Spacing & Access Planning

We space panels to allow wind flow and maintenance access. Ground mounts are typically 6-8 feet high, allowing equipment to pass underneath or livestock to graze. The land doesn't have to be wasted.

Foundation Work

We pour concrete footings at each post location. This is the most labor-intensive part of ground mount installation, but it's essential for durability in Alberta's climate. We don't cut corners on foundations.

Electrical Integration

We run conduit from the array to your main panel or battery system. Underground conduit protects wiring from weather and equipment damage. All work is performed by licensed electricians.

Permits, Interconnection & Commissioning
