Residential
Residential Solar Incentives
Programs available to Alberta homeowners. Many can be stacked together to significantly reduce your out-of-pocket cost.
Ongoing Bill Credits
Utility Credit
Alberta Net Metering (Micro-Generation Regulation)
Alberta's Micro-Generation Regulation lets homeowners generate their own solar power and export surplus electricity to the grid for credits on their bill. Your meter effectively runs backwards when panels produce more than you use.
- Export surplus solar power at the prevailing electricity rate
- Credits applied directly to your monthly bill
- Available to all Alberta homeowners with a grid-tied solar system
- Administered through your utility (ENMAX, ATCO, FortisAlberta, etc.)
Financing at ~2.75%
Low-Interest Financing
Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP)
The CEIP is available through 20+ Alberta municipalities and offers low-interest financing for solar upgrades. Repayment is tied to the property through your property tax bill — not the homeowner — so if you sell, the obligation transfers with the property.
- Available in Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, Strathmore, and 20+ municipalities
- Financing repaid through property taxes over up to 25 years
- Tied to the property, not the homeowner — no risk if you sell
- Some municipalities offer additional rebates on top of financing
Up to $3,100
Rebate + Financing
Airdrie CEIP — Local Rebate
Airdrie is one of the few Alberta communities with its own local rebate stacked on top of CEIP financing. Qualifying solar installations in Airdrie can receive up to $3,100 back in addition to low-interest financing.
- 2.75% financing for up to 25 years through property taxes
- Up to $3,100 rebate for qualifying solar projects
- Applications open — check City of Airdrie for current intake
- Stacks with provincial net metering and bank financing
