The town itself is not much younger than the railway that made it. Settlement began in 1906, and the townsite actually shifted location twice as the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway settled its route, a small piece of history that explains why the modern grid looks the way it does. Today Tofield is the service hub for a stretch of Beaver County anchored in agriculture: mixed farming, grain, and cattle, with oil and gas activity to the east and a growing band of acreage-residential development on the western side, nearer Edmonton.

Beaver County's farm loads split roughly into two shapes, and they favour solar for different reasons. Westside Acreages and Homes Inside Town
West of Tofield, toward Edmonton, the county has filled in with acreage-residential development featuring larger homes on a few acres, often with a well pump, a detached heated shop, and electric or dual-fuel heat that pushes annual consumption well past a typical town bill. That kind of load is exactly what a mid-to-large solar system is built to offset, and these properties almost always have the roof area or the open yard to host it. Tofield sits at roughly 53.37 degrees latitude. There is no long-term Environment Canada normals station in town, so we lean on the nearest one: Edmonton, about 68 km west, which records around 2,345 bright-sunshine hours a year. Translated into output at a specific yield near 1,150 kWh per installed kilowatt, a 7.6 kW array produces roughly 8,700 kWh over a year, and a 10 kW array roughly 11,500 kWh. The first comfortably powers a typical town home; the second starts to bite into a real acreage, grain, or cattle bill.
In hardware terms, a 7.6 kW system is roughly 17 to 19 modules at today's 400-to-450-watt ratings, and a 10 kW array is closer to 22 to 25 panels. A modest town roof usually carries the smaller of those; the farms and westside acreages around Tofield have the roof or ground for the larger.
