Two more animals from the Saving Grace adoption pages. Same thing every month: we pull a few profiles from the shelter and share whoever caught our attention. This time it is Barbie and Gabby.

Barbie: one year old, Lab cross, still finding her footing

Barbie is one year old, female, best-guess Lab cross. She came into Saving Grace with some shyness around new faces and some reactivity to work through. According to the shelter, she is making great progress every day. She has been working with her foster family on basic manners and her handlers describe her as incredibly loving and gentle once she lets her guard down.

She is very social with other dogs and LOVES playing with them, the card says. She has shown she can likely be fine with cats who know their way around dogs. What she needs is someone willing to be patient at the beginning. Patient people get the whole dog: unconditional love, endless cuddles, and apparently a lot of making you laugh.

The Saving Grace team says Barbie is fully owner-trained and continues working on her confidence every day. She does not need a special home. She needs a consistent one.

Gabby: 3.5 years old, DSH Tabby, expert at finding the warmest spot

Gabby is three and a half years old, female, domestic short-hair tabby. The card from Saving Grace calls her a tiny little queen with a big personality, and a master of hide-and-seek. Her favourite place to end up? Under the covers right beside you.

She likes relaxing, she likes a good burst of energy for a game of chase, and she is described as the perfect mix of playful and calm. Good with other cats. Good with dogs. The shelter says she is a total sweetheart and that anyone who welcomes her into their family would be incredibly lucky.

Gabby is the kind of cat who will locate the cosiest spot in your home before you have finished showing her around.

Saving Grace is a registered Alberta rescue based in Alix, about an hour northeast of Red Deer. They place dogs, cats, and barn buddies across the province.
