The Solar Company That Does Not Skip Small Communities
Gem is a hamlet near Bassano in Newell County. About 200 people. Most solar companies do not even know it exists. They build their marketing around Calgary, Edmonton, and Lethbridge — because that is where the volume is. Small communities get ignored.
We built Range Road Solar specifically for places like Gem. Rural Alberta. Hamlets, villages, and county properties where people actually own land, run operations, and pay serious power bills. A property in Gem has exactly the same solar potential as a property in Calgary — arguably more, because there is nothing blocking the sun out here.
We are Alberta-owned. Not from Ontario. Not a lead generation company that sells your phone number to three installers and lets them fight over you. We are the installer. One company, one crew, one number to call if you ever need anything. That is how business should work in a community of 200 people where everyone knows everyone.
Utility and Grid Connection in Gem
Your wire service provider handles the lines and meters for properties in the Gem area. Check your utility bill to confirm your provider — it will list who manages the distribution infrastructure to your property. Could be FortisAlberta, ATCO Electric, or a rural electrification association.
We handle every step of the interconnection process. We submit the micro-generation application, provide the technical specifications, coordinate the meter swap, and manage the inspection. You do not deal with the utility company. You deal with us. And we pick up the phone.
Small Town. Big Sunshine.
Gem sits between Bassano and Brooks in the sun belt of southern Alberta. Approximately 2,480 hours of bright sunshine per year. That puts it ahead of every major city in Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia. The geography is dead flat with zero shading obstructions. It is, frankly, about as close to ideal solar conditions as you can get in Canada.
The hamlet sits in the Eastern Irrigation District, surrounded by some of the most productive farmland in the province. The same arid, sunny conditions that support irrigation agriculture also support high-output solar arrays. Your land is already working for you. Solar makes your rooftop or yard work for you too.
And cold does not hurt solar. It helps. Panels produce more electricity per watt in cold temperatures. Alberta winters are cold and clear — the combination of frigid air and bright sunshine means your panels are actually more efficient in January than they are in July. Snow slides off within a day or two on angled panels. The math works twelve months a year.
Gem receives approximately 2,480 hours of bright sunshine annually — among the highest totals in Canada and far above the national average.
218+ Installs — We Do Not Subcontract and Disappear
We have completed 218+ solar installations across rural and central Alberta. Every single one done by our crew, with our equipment, under our supervision. No subcontractors. No fly-by-night installers from out of province. When we say we installed it, we mean we installed it.
We install on everything from suburban rooftops to 30 kW farm ground-mounts. The Bassano-Brooks corridor is regular territory for us. We know the soil conditions, the wind patterns, and the utility paperwork process for this part of the province. Your system is designed for Gem, not for a generic Alberta template.

Equipment That Handles Whatever Gem Throws at It
We install LONGi panels. Globally recognized, hail-tested, and backed by a 25-year product warranty. They perform in minus-40 winters and plus-35 summers because they were engineered for both extremes. Southern Alberta gives them both and they do not flinch.
APsystems microinverters handle the DC-to-AC conversion at the panel level. Every pair of panels operates independently. If one panel gets hit by dust, snow, or a shadow from your tractor parked nearby, the rest of the array keeps producing at full capacity. On small properties where shade conditions change throughout the day, this independence is critical.
We also install Solis inverters for string configurations on larger systems, and battery backup for properties that want grid-independence during outages.
Grants and Incentives for Gem Properties
If your operation is incorporated, the federal Investment Tax Credit gives you 30 percent of your system cost back in year one. That is the headline incentive. But there are others worth knowing about.
Federal ITC (30%)
For incorporated farms and businesses. 30 percent of the total installed cost returned as a tax credit in year one. Applied against corporate tax owing.
Emissions Reduction Alberta
Provincial incentive program supporting clean energy projects. Eligibility and funding amounts change — we review what is currently available during your assessment.
Canada Agricultural Partnership
Federal-provincial funding for agricultural properties making energy efficiency and renewable energy investments.
We stay current on every active program and walk you through your options. Incentive programs come and go — we make sure you do not leave money on the table.
How Net Metering Works in Gem
Alberta's micro-generation regulation lets you connect solar panels to the grid and bank credits for any power you export. Your meter reads both directions. During sunny hours, excess production flows to the grid and earns you credits. During dark hours or heavy consumption periods, you draw from the grid and use those credits up. You pay only for your net usage.
In a place like Gem, summer days are long and sunny. Your panels will overproduce for months, banking credits that carry you through winter. Most of our clients in similar communities end up with near-zero annual power bills. The utility still sends a statement. The number on it just stops bothering you.
